Xilam Animation recently unveiled the results of its first carbon footprint, which shows a footprint per employee that is almost half that of the sector.

The independent studio for the production and distribution of animation programs reports that its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reached 1.673 tonnes CO2 equivalent (tCO2e) across all scopes 1, 2 and 3 in 2022, or 3.9 tCO2 per employee.

According to Greenly, the service provider behind this carbon footprint, the group's carbon footprint per employee is less than half (-49%) that of the median for companies in the cultural and creative industries, i.e. 8.02 tCO2e per employee for the sector median.

According to the report, the purchase of services, particularly from service studios, is by far the biggest emitter of greenhouse gases, accounting for 40% of emissions.

Energy comes next, with 13% of total emissions, 85% of which comes from electricity, while the food and beverage category accounts for 12% of total emissions, mainly linked to employee meals.

Digital (Web services, SaaS, licenses and cloud servers) generated 11% of total emissions.

'The results of this initiative demonstrate that the company is already very 'green' in terms of the audiovisual services sector, but also that it still has considerable room for maneuver to continue reducing its footprint', emphasized CEO Marc du Pontavice.
