(Alliance News) - FAE Technology Spa announced Monday that it has signed a technological partnership with deep-tech company Finapp Srl, a spinoff of the University of Padua specializing in applied nuclear physics.

Specifically, FAE Technology has developed, engineered, prototyped and produced the electronic boards inside Finapp's environmental monitoring probes: these are devices capable of detecting data to rationalize irrigation in agriculture by cutting down water waste, to mitigate hydrogeological risk with innovative landslide warning systems, and to map water distribution network leaks in order to optimize water resource management.

The device's readings, post-processed on the cloud and processed through proprietary algorithms based on artificial intelligence and machine learning, monitor soil moisture and the amount of water trapped in snow in real time, at a large scale and depth. The probe's singularity is based on the use of CNRS - Cosmic Ray Neutron Sensing technology, which calculates neutrons generated by the interaction between cosmic rays and water contained in the surface under analysis.

In addition, FAE Technology is working on the development of new technology models with increased performance on the basis of advanced communication protocols in a 5G perspective to support the operation of probes on board mobile vehicles. The integration of the GPS module enables geo-referencing of surveys and drawing near-real-time maps of soil moisture, obtaining data useful for maintenance of road, rail and water infrastructure.

The latter application is among the targets of funding, totaling about EUR3 million, that Finapp was awarded in March, winning the European Innovation Council's EIC Accelerator cut-off. The funds will be used to promote the probe's commercial scale-up and growth in international markets.

FAE Technology's stock is down 0.3 percent at EUR1.93 per share.
