(Alliance News) - Aura Energy Ltd on Tuesday named Mark Somlyay as its new chief financial officer, starting April 22.

Aura Energy is a minerals exploration company with projects in Mauritania, Sweden and Western Australia.

Somlyay was previously finance director of the Australia business for Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd, and was previously CFO at Chesser Resources Ltd, a Senegal-focused gold development company.

According to Aura, he also over two decades of experience in finance, commercial and business improvement within the mining industry. The majority of his experience has been in West Africa and in francophone jurisdictions, where he has been involved in the recent development of three greenfield projects.

"Mark's appointment as CFO is another important step in the development of Tiris and the steady progress in Mauritania is exciting. We look forward to providing our shareholders with further updates as we achieve more milestones during 2024," said Chief Executive Officer Andrew Grove.

Aura Energy shares were trading 1.3% higher at 9.22 pence each in London on Tuesday afternoon.
