G-TEKT Corporation announced that it has recently entered into a licensing agreement with ArcelorMittal, S.A. regarding ablation technology for the Japanese market. When laser welding aluminum-coated hot-stamped steel sheets, the aluminum may mix in
with the weld joint. It may lead to a decrease in strength at the joints. Therefore, a process of removing the plating layer near the joints through ablation is required beforehand. This technology is patented by ArcelorMittal. By combining that technology with expertise in hot stamping processing, G-TEKT can realize large integrated body products using steel sheets of optimal thickness for each part of the vehicle body. Additionally, this advancement contributes to achieving a sustainable society by enhancing production efficiency for automotive manufacturers and reducing environmental impact through the streamlining of production facilities. Moreover, in consideration of determining the optimal product specifications and pressing methods, G-TEKT will advance development with the cooperation of NIPPON STEEL Corporation.
