There is a striking new rumor about the iPad Pro, which Apple will almost certainly announce at their scheduled Apple Event next week. Indeed, that device is said to be getting a new revolutionary M4 chipset, making it fully ready for artificial intelligence (AI).

Context: Apple announced last week that it will hold another Apple Event on Tuesday, May 7. That will in all likelihood revolve around the launch of some new models of iPads. In doing so, it is not only looking forward to a new - and larger - iPad Air, but also a revamped iPad Pro.

  • It will be the seventh-generation iPad Pro and the first new one since October 2022. A major update is therefore expected, and it might be bigger than originally expected. Indeed, it was long assumed that Apple would use its latest M3 chipset for the new iPad Pro, but the company would apparently opt for an even newer chip.

M4 chipset

Mark Gurman, Apple expert at Bloomberg, in fact, reports that this new iPad Pro will be the first Apple device with the revolutionary M4 chipset.

  • This M4 chip will introduce new AI capabilities. "I believe Apple will position the tablet as its first truly AI-powered device," Gurman said.

Artificial intelligence

"From then on, it will tout every new product as an AI device. In doing so, Apple is obviously capitalizing on the AI craze that has engulfed the technology industry in recent years," Gurman continued.

  • After the new iPad Pro, the M4 chipset would also be used for the new iMac, several new models of the MacBook Pro and a Mac mini later this year.

This new M4 chip will not only be equipped to handle all the novelties of AI, it would also be quite a bit faster than Apple's previous chipsets. Especially for the iPad Pro, whose most recent model still uses the M2 chip, this will make a huge difference.
