We're thrilled to announce that Maxwell Strachan is joining Well to lead our features coverage as a senior editor. Maxwell brings broad knowledge and a sharp story sense to the desk as we expand. He will work with reporters on narrative storytelling and other enterprise across a range of health topics.

Maxwell (whose last name is pronounced Strawn, and whose first name seems to destine him for our desk) was most recently a senior editor at Vice Media, where he edited and reported features and investigations. One story he edited, about a nationwide Airbnb scam, led to internal changes at the company, an F.B.I. investigation and federal indictments for those involved. He has also covered topics including the public health effects of online gambling, the fall of the popular yoga franchise Yoga to the People, and the booming business of egg freezing. In 2020, Maxwell was awarded a fellowship at the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard, studying the effect of venture capital on the digital media industry, and taught feature writing at Harvard Summer School. Last year, his feature on thecryptocurrency gold rush was nominated for a Writers Guild Award in the digital news category.

Before Vice, Maxwell worked at HuffPost as both a senior editor and reporter, covering business, technology, politics, media, entertainment and sports. His former colleagues rave about his talents as a journalist and his generosity as a co-worker.

Maxwell grew up in Los Angeles and attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he majored in history.

His first day is May 13. Please join us in welcoming him to the desk.
