World-Class Lineup at the First-Ever Siemens Energy Asia Pacific Energy Week Conference

  • Virtual conference themed 'Shaping the Energy of Tomorrow' focused on Asia Pacific

  • Besides high-profile global and regional thought leaders from the energy and power sector, thousands of participants from across the region will join in the live panel sessions

  • Event partners include German Chambers of Commerce Abroad, Asia-Pacific Hydrogen Association, Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit, Masdar, and Siemens Gamesa

  • Some of the most pressing and crucial topics of today surrounding sustainability, digitalization, decarbonization, and energy sector security will be discussed over the two days.

On March 9 and 10, Asia Pacific's power and energy sector comprising industry experts, government stakeholders, and thousands of customers will convene together at the region's first-ever Siemens Energy Asia Pacific Energy Week virtual conference. Themed "Shaping the Energy of Tomorrow", it is organized by Siemens Energy and partners, with the agenda of driving conversations and action plans on the energy transition, changing energy landscape, challenges and opportunities ahead, as well as balancing energy demands with carbon neutrality and climate change.

As the world's fastest growing economic region today, Asia Pacific is witnessing increasing urbanization, rising population and monumental energy needs. For this region alone, energy demand is projected to increase by 80% from 12,327 TWh in 2018 to 22,245 TWh in 2040. With the long-term impacts of Covid-19 and climate change starting to gain an acute awareness, a fundamental shift in energy systems will need to be realized, sooner rather than later. With Asia Pacific accounting for more than half of global energy consumption, and 10% of populations still lacking access to basic electricity, this virtual conference provides a momentous opportunity and an impetus for the energy industry to convene and collaborate towards a future that is sustainable, efficient, affordable and accessible, in line with the ideas laid out by UN Sustainable Goal 7.

Event partners that pledged their support for the conference include the German Chambers of Commerce Abroad (AHK); the Asia-Pacific Hydrogen Association; the Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit (GMIS); Masdar - a global leader in renewable energy and sustainable urban development which is wholly-owned by the Abu Dhabi government's Mubadala Investment Company, and Siemens Gamesa. Participants can expect engaging and insightful panel sessions covering a diverse range of topics that will feature esteemed international panelists including regional ministers, CEOs, energy and finance industry leaders as well as Siemens Energy board members and senior executives. Among the panelists who have confirmed their participation include Ministers from Australia, Germany, and Indonesia, as well as senior executives from Adani Group, B. Grimm, GENCO, IRENA, JGC Corp., Korea Gas Corp. Research Institute, NTPC, SembCorp, and SP Power Grid.

The seven panel sessions will cover subject matters such as financing sustainable energy projects, integrating renewables into grids, incorporating digitalization, decarbonizing hydrocarbon intensive industries, and utilizing green hydrogen. At present, an estimated 16% of the world's power generation is already based on Siemens Energy technologies. With this significant portfolio comes the responsibility to help shape the direction and future of the energy sector, and to focus on sustainability, innovation, and decarbonization, for the benefit of society.

"Asia Pacific's growth aspirations will drive the 80% increase in energy demand projected by 2040. Investments in energy sources, supply, and infrastructure will need be carefully balanced between growing energy demand and protecting the planet. The journey towards a secure, affordable, and more sustainable energy system can only be achieved through collaboration and strong partnerships. The Energy Week virtual conference is an excellent platform for all energy stakeholders to come together and define an energy system framework for future generations," said Brian Byrne, Senior Vice President, Siemens Energy Asia Pacific Hub.

"Given the region's rapid economic growth and the commitment to sustainable development shared by the countries there, we see tremendous potential for renewable energy throughout Asia Pacific. The 'Shaping the Energy of Tomorrow' event will be the ideal platform to provide a framework for the regional clean energy transition, and is aligned with Masdar's goal of delivering renewable energy solutions to more countries across the world," said Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar.

"The AHKs in Asia-Pacific represent the interests of around 13,000 member companies in the region. We take an active part in the foreign trade promotion activities within the framework of the German Energy Solutions Initiative, coordinated and financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. As bilateral chambers we not only facilitate the dialogue within our networks but

also support concrete projects on renewable energy systems, energy efficiency solutions, smart grids and storage technologies with a clear focus on SMEs.", said Dr Roland Wein, Regional Spokesperson for the German Chambers Abroad (AHKs) in Asia-Pacific.

"The need to decarbonize our economy to fight climate change is acknowledged by both countries and companies on an unprecedented level. In addition to protecting the environment, renewable energy technologies from Siemens Gamesa are already contributing to the ongoing global recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. As a carbon-neutral company since 2020, we're encouraged by the increased penetration of clean, cost-efficient renewable energy around the world, and the long-term benefits it provides for customers, ratepayers, and society-at-large," says Marc Becker, Siemens Gamesa Offshore Business Unit CEO.
