HANNOVER (dpa-AFX) - German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has experienced the pitfalls of the interaction between humans and artificial intelligence (AI) for himself at the Hannover Messe. At the Siemens stand on Monday, the SPD politician was asked to accelerate a robotic gripper arm using voice control. "Can we make the speed faster? Faster. Even faster," said Scholz. But at first - nothing happened. Only after a few repetitions was the command carried out.

Siemens board member Cedrik Neike took it with humor. "It's like politics. It takes a little longer for it to work, but when it works, it works properly," said Neike.

Despite the minor mishap, the chancellor's summary of the trade fair was positive. "What you can feel here is innovation, the desire to develop new things. This applies in particular to the major task of how we can deal with the challenges of digitalization and take advantage of the opportunities," said Scholz. AI can already be found in even the smallest products today. This also helps to consume fewer resources.

The Prime Minister of the trade fair partner country Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre, was also impressed. "Many of the things we have seen today would have been science fiction if they had been introduced five years ago," said Støre./cwe/DP/ngu
