Nov 11 (Reuters) - Royal Bank of Canada's U.S. unit City National Bank said it has appointed Howard Hammond as its Chief Executive Officer, replacing Kelly Coffey, effective Nov. 27.

Coffey will assume the role of the CEO of the bank's entertainment division, City National Entertainment, the bank said in an announcement on Friday.

Hammond joins from Fifth Third Bancorp, where he most recently served as executive vice president and head of its consumer banking division.

Parent Royal Bank of Canada injected about $2.95 billion so far this year into the bank in an effort to bolster its capital, making one of the biggest annual infusions of funds since acquiring the bank in 2015.

Last month, City National outgoing CEO Coffey told Reuters the capital injection was intended to further strengthen the capital and liquidity position of the bank's balance sheet.

Since RBC acquired it for $5.4 billion in cash and stock, City National has most recently received amounts between $450 million, $700 million and $600 million annually. In the first six months of 2023, City National received $950 million. (Reporting by Akanksha Khushi in Bengaluru; Editing by David Gregorio)
