OMV Petrom, the largest integrated energy producer in Southeast Europe, continues for the third consecutive year the partnership with the Medcorp Association and supports the implementation of the 'Health in the neighbourhood' program.

Residents of rural communities with limited access to medical services benefit from free medical investigations and specialists' consultations. Following these, they are prescribed treatments, receive recommendations for a healthy lifestyle and are monitored through a call-center service. For the medically difficult cases, the Medcorp team facilitates access to clinics and hospitals for thorough investigations and interventions.

Christina Verchere, CEO OMV Petrom: 'The 'Health in the Neighbourhood' program directly contributes to improving the health and well-being of rural communities. Thousands of people in isolated areas receive access to complex medical services. We are honoured to partner with Medcorp Association and proud that together we can truly have a significant and lasting positive impact on those who need it most.'

In 2024, the program aims to reach 12 new communities and return to 15 previously visited communities to monitor the health status of beneficiaries and update medical recommendations.

To enable the early diagnosis of medical conditions that have a high rate of occurrence in the population, 'Health in the neighbourhood' is also launching a screening program focused on abdominal ultrasounds and dermatology consultations. It will consist of 20 screening events and will enable potential health problems to be quickly identified, followed up and treated appropriately, helping to prevent more serious and costly health problems in the future.

Mihai Olaru, President of the Board of Directors, Medcorp Association: 'The shortest distance should always remain that between you and your health, is the motto of the program we have been running for 2 years and through which we respond to medical needs. 'Health in the neighbourhood' meets people who have limited access to medical services and offers them equal opportunities. Our doctors play a key role in the relationship with each patient, and their interaction continues beyond field visits through call-center services and medical navigation of more difficult cases to hospitals. It is a long-term commitment, and we are happy to have OMV Petrom by our side, a partner for whom health is a priority.'

The program was started in 2022. By the end of 2023, through the 'Health in the neighbourhood' program, complete teams made up of specialist doctors, resident doctors and medical students visited 15 communities in 8 counties: Prahova, Dmbovi?a, Dolj, Gorj, Olt, Bacau, Gala?i, and Constan?a.

In the first two years of implementation, approximately 1,700 people benefited from complete packages of medical investigations and specialists' consultations, and more than 10,500 paraclinical investigations and specialized consultations were granted. More than EUR 900,000 (estimate based on the analysis of three private clinics in Romania) represents the value of the medical services offered in 2022 and 2023 if the patients had chosen to avail themselves of these services at a private clinic.
