NOS MAINTAINS ITS LEADERSHIP IN THE NATIONAL RANKING OF INVESTMENT IN INNOVATION
In 2020, NOS invested more than 67 million euros in Research and Development
The operator has 226 staff assigned to areas of innovation
5G, Digital Transformation and Intelligent Cities were the priority investment areas
For the second year running, NOS has taken first place in the rankingof the 100 companies that invest the most in Research and Development (R&D) in Portugal. The information has been disclosed by the Department of Science and Education Statistics in a survey relating to the year 2020.
With an investment of over 67 million euros and more than 220 staff dedicated to areas of innovation, the operator is reaffirming its commitment to the digitalization of society and the continuous improvement of its customers' experience. In addition to maintaining its position as the company that invests the most in Research and Development in Portugal, NOS posted growth of around 50% in the number of staff with university degrees in areas of R&D, a reflection of its strategic focus on highly qualified professional profiles.
According to Miguel Almeida, Chairman of NOS' Executive Board: "Leadership of the ranking of companies, which invest most in research and development, for the second year running is the result of our focus on creating the best solutions for the Portuguese people, leveraging everything that technological development in its various forms can offer. NOS is firmly committed to helping to accelerate the digital transformation of the country, and in this way establishing itself as a driver of competiti on in Portuguese society".
The sum of 67.251 million euros invested in 2020 was spent mainly on developing NOS' new generation of 5G networks and preparing for the arrival of 5G, and on a strong focus on areas relating to Digital Transformation and to the development of Intelligent Cities.
Over and above concentrating on an innovation model that draws on the talent and specialized knowhow of its staff, NOS has been extending the scale of its R&D collaboration through projects developed in partnership with universities, Portuguese and foreign technology centers, startups and incubators, as part of an eco-system open to innovation that enables the development of the most advanced and secure technological solutions to be accelerated.
NOS leads the list of the 100 companies with the highest level of investment in Research and Development (R&D) activities in Portugal in 2020, based on the provisional results from the 2020 National Technological and Scientific Potential Survey (IPCTN20). The survey is the source of official statistical information about R&D in our country.
