Nurturing Budding Talent Through Grassroots Sports Development

PETALING JAYA, DECEMBER 1, 2023 - Further strengthening its commitment by expanding its sports initiative beyond urban areas, MILO remains dedicated to fostering grassroots sports development among Malaysians and ensuring that every Malaysian child is included and encouraged to participate in sports. Joining hands with the Sports, Co-Curricular and Arts Division of the Ministry of Education (MOE), MILO recently spearheaded Kejohanan Sukan Sekolah Murid Orang Asli (KSSMOA) 2023 to encourage school children to take up sports.

Held over two days in schools in Shah Alam, Puchong and Subang Jaya, KSSMOA 2023 brought together more than 422 Orang Asli students across seven states, showcasing a variety of local sporting events such as Bola Sepak, Sepak Takraw, Bola Baling and Olahraga. These spirited competitions not only underscored the value of sports but also provided a platform for young students to showcase their skills and build teamwork. Adding a nostalgic touch to the event, iconic MILO trucks offered complimentary cups of energising MILO to participants, creating an atmosphere of communal joy and celebration.

Kerwin Lim, Sports Marketing Manager MILO, Nestlé (Malaysia) Berhad, said, "We are pleased to join hands with MOE for this initiative, reflecting MILO's steadfast commitment to utilising sports as a tool to nurture essential lifelong values in young individuals. Through KSSMOA 2023, we firmly believe in the transformative power of sports in creating a positive impact on Orang Asli youth. Building on our history of driving grassroots sports development in Malaysia, the outcomes we have witnessed over the years have reinforced our belief that sports is a great teacher, playing a pivotal role in shaping character by instilling positive values such as perseverance, leadership and teamwork, all of which support the well-rounded and holistic development of children."

MILO has been instrumental in driving a sporting culture amongst Malaysians and stands as a brand deeply committed to inclusivity across all communities. For more than 70 years, MILO has played a pivotal role in cultivating young talent within the Malaysian sports scene. This enduring commitment reflects MILO's belief that sports serve as exemplary educators of life values. The students' commendable sportsmanship displayed during the event epitomised MILO's fundamental philosophy "Take on Sports Today, Take on Life Tomorrow" or "Hari Ini Gigih Bersukan, Hari Esok Kuasai Kehidupan".

"We believe there is so much more to achieve, and MILO will continue to be at the forefront in supporting local community initiatives such as KSSMOA. Ultimately, our aim is to continue empowering parents and students with the knowledge and understanding that a balanced lifestyle, encompassing both academic pursuits and extracurricular passions, is the key to unlocking their full potential," concluded Kerwin Lim.
