Protagonist of the energy transition in Brazil, Neoenergia joins the Rock in Rio and The Town festivals, organized by Rock World, in a strategic partnership that aims to promote solutions for decarbonization of events that also serve the music industry. The partnership between the companies will be materialized in awareness actions that aim to engage the young public and, through the development of future solutions, can further mitigate the environmental impact of what is one of the largest segments of entertainment.

The event that formalized the commitment took place on Monday at the Museum of Tomorrow in Rio de Janeiro. During the ceremony, representatives of the business, artistic and government sectors had the opportunity to discuss sustainable actions capable of minimizing carbon emissions.

Among the actions planned to support decarbonization in the two festivals, the giant of the electricity sector has made a commitment to invest in the search for energy solutions for the future of the events, starting as early as 2024 with the supply of clean energy for the edition of Rock in Rio, a reference festival in sustainability. The efforts to raise awareness among the new generations will already be present in the first edition of The Town, which takes place next September in São Paulo. Neoenergia will be an official supporter of the event that will gather an audience of approximately 500,000 people at the Interlagos Race Track. The company has prepared sustainable actions for what is already considered the largest music, culture and art festival in São Paulo.

As a symbolic act to raise public awareness, for each person present at the Rock in Rio and The Town festivals, Neoenergia will exchange a conventional lamp for an LED in schools, hospitals, non-profit institutions and low-income communities in the concession areas where the company operates , in the distribution of energy in Brazil. By public estimates, The Town should provide the exchange of up to 500 thousand lamps and, Rock In Rio, 700 thousand lamps. The initiative is part of the Energy Efficiency Program, regulated by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel). The idea is to use the change of lamps as a tool for awareness and education.

The action of replacing inefficient lamps with models, which save up to 40% compared to a compact fluorescent (15W), aims to avoid energy waste and, consequently, contribute to sustainability by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Also as a way to minimize the impacts caused by CO² emissions, Neoenergia will provide solar-powered lampposts for The Town and electric carts that will be used by the organization of the festivals in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

The initiatives signed with Rock in Rio/The Town are in line with the actions and actions developed by Neoenergia in favor of decarbonization. "For a just and inclusive energy transition, we need to expand the generation of energy from clean sources, as well as it is necessary to influence young people about the production and consumption of other products. Their participation will be fundamental in this process to raise awareness in society from now on," said Eduardo Capelastegui, CEO of Neoenergia.

The executive added that the company has a clear strategy for sustainable expansion. Regarding emissions, Neoenergia has set a goal of reducing CO² intensity to 20g/kWh by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

In addition to CEO Eduardo Capelastegui, Neoenergia was represented by Solange Ribeiro, Vice President of Regulation, Institutional and Sustainability and Vice-President of the United Nations (UN) Global Compact. The launch of the partnership was also attended by the CEO of Rock World, Luis Justo; Rock World's Chief Brand Reputation Officer, Roberta Medina; the president of the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS) and advisor to Neoenergia, Marina Grossi; and the National Secretary for Climate Change, Ana Toni.

"In 2006, we began to offset the carbon footprint of Rock in Rio. Of the 22 editions held since it was created, 18 had their emissions neutralized. We have already compensated 420 thousand tons, through reforestation projects in Portugal and Brazil, among others. The time has come when we need to take a bigger step and seek innovative solutions that meet, not only, our festivals, but the industry as a whole and Neoenergia is the partner we chose to join with us in this mission", says Roberta Medina, CBRO of Rock World.

"We need to talk about the power in electric power in decarbonizing the economy. Society must be enlightened about the importance of generating energy from renewable sources. In parallel, the executive stressed that it is necessary to influence people so that there is behavioral change in favor of energy efficiency for even more conscious use of electricity, " said Solange Ribeiro, vice president of Regulation, Institutional and Sustainability.

"We are in a very special moment to talk about the environment and the fight against climate change. This is a priority in every way, in Brazil and in the world. Climate change is also a change of habit, of a development model, above all, of technology change. This debate is key. The RIR mobilizes those who need to be part of this change, young people. Together with the federal government, and companies such as Neoenergia, we will make the diferença_," said Ana Toni, National Secretary for Climate Change.

"Companies have several initiatives. Neoenergia, for example, was born as part of the solution, through the generation of renewable energy. ESG goals in companies are mandatory issues. This also involves a matter of education, values and culture that needs to go beyond to reach the whole society. It is also necessary to have laws to provide security in this journey towards decarbonization," said Marina Grossi, president of the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS) and advisor to Neoenergia.

Marketing

With a marketing strategy focused on three pillars - brand, customer and business - Neoenergia has been expanding engagement with its 16 million customers in the country through a new brand positioning. With an integrated communication, especially in the digital environment, the energy company is strengthening the relationship with the public with actions related to women's sport and, now, with music. Currently, Neoenergia is in the lead, among companies in the energy sector, on Instagram, with more than 340 thousand followers.

"It is not enough to be a socially responsible company, it is imperative to communicate sustainable attributes as a way to engage and inspire society. By signing a commitment with an international reference partner such as Rock in Rio, Neoenergia reinforces the credibility gained from the brand and advances in the strategy of consolidating itself as one of the main leaders in sustainable energy solutions in the country", concluded Lorenzo Perales, Marketing Director of Neoenergia.

All together for a better world

In a festival that values sustainability in the most diverse fronts of action, music becomes an instrument of awareness and connection with the public. In this sense, the Bahian band Afrocidade, one of the attractions confirmed in The Town, appropriates the talent and inspiration to carry a message in favor of more sustainable behaviors. "We created a manifesto in song form to talk about the importance of society decarbonizing. This is the energy that we will take to everyone," said vocalist José Macedo. In addition, Afrocidade will be present in the contents of Neoenergia's digital networks.

The Town

The Town arrives in São Paulo with a robust Sustainability Plan based on the knowledge accumulated by Rock World over more than 20 years. In order to reduce and compensate for the carbon footprint, the campaigns and mobility plans for the public stand out, already adopted by Rock in Rio for several editions and in all the places where it passes. The initiative is consolidated in partnerships with transport companies that guarantee the public the possibility of going to and from the festival on public transport, which drastically reduces the carbon footprint associated with holding the festival. The waste management plan enhances recycling and minimizes emissions. The solar-powered lampposts and electric carts used by the team (both provided by Neoenergia) complement this planning.

"Rock in Rio was the first major music event in the world to offset its carbon footprint in 2006. Over the last few years, it has implemented several actions in the countries through which it passes. Rock in Rio Solar School installed 760 photovoltaic panels in Portuguese schools," recalled Luís Justo, CEO of Rock World. According to him, in Rio de Janeiro in only two editions, even doubling the size of the festival, Rock in Rio reduced energy consumption by 62%. The festival has also planted more than 4 million trees in the Amazon, equivalent to carbon capture in the order of 600,000 tons of CO2 among other initiatives.
