When the local food bank put out a call for help earlier this year due to increased demand, the team at Mincon Canada North Bay took the initiative to organize a donation drive to help the community.

North Bay is a small city with a population of slightly over 50,000 and sits about 350 kilometers (217 miles) away from the nearest major city (Toronto and Ottawa), so it was hit hard by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many small businesses were forced to shut down and families were affected.

With the factory, as an essential business, remaining open during the pandemic and spared from job losses, the team wanted to lend a helping hand.

Thanks to the employee-led effort, Mincon was able to provide the food bank with 93 food times items weighing a total of 52 kilograms (115 pounds) and $355 in donations.

"We are a small group of under 30 people at the Rotary Bit factory in North Bay and it was great to get the results we did.," said Charlene Ylimaki, General Manager Mincon Canada. "We're proud of our team and hope to inspire other Mincon teams to follow our lead and help their communities."
