Galliford Try, one of the UK's leading construction groups, has been shortlisted by the plc Awards for Company of the Year, while Chief Executive Bill Hocking has been named as a finalist for CEO of the Year.

The awards seek to recognise the successes and achievements of companies listed on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange. Galliford Try was shortlisted in the Company of the Year category for 'clearly demonstrating that success is not just a short-term phenomenon' with 'improved, sustainable profitability'. Credit was given for financing the business in a way which supports its longevity, sustainability and resilience; decision-making and achievements relating to ESG practices and policies; work with supply chain, and, crucially, championing people.

Leading these accomplishments, Chief Executive Bill Hocking was singled out as a nominee for CEO of the Year for 'strong and successful leadership of the business' with particular emphasis on the needs of customers, employees, investors and communities; shaping strategy and building a strong senior management team with 'a clear vision for the company'.

Bill joined Galliford Try in September 2015 as Managing Director of its Construction business. He was appointed CEO when the group sold its housebuilding arm. Since that time, he has had a strong commitment to leading a values-driven, people-orientated, progressive company, working together to deliver for its clients and stakeholders.

Commenting on the nominations, Alison Wood, Chair of Galliford Try Holdings plc, said: 'I am delighted to see that Galliford Try has been shortlisted for these coveted titles. Bill and his team have done a fantastic job of establishing Galliford Try as a strong and sustainable business with a clear strategy, embedding a culture where everyone is aligned to the same purpose. I wish Bill and the team the best of luck for the awards.'

In its recent Trading Update, the Group announced that trading is ahead of Board expectations, with revenue and profit before tax for the full year expected to be approximately 5% ahead of current expectations.

Other companies shortlisted for the same awards include Marks & Spencer and Rolls-Royce. Winners will be announced on Thursday 14 March 2024.
