Fuller's, the only remaining family brewery in London, is celebrating this week after being named Brewery of the Year by The Good Pub Guide 2014.

The accolade is the latest in a succession of awards for the brewery, which remains to this day the only brewer to have three beers named CAMRA Champion Beer of Britain for London Pride, ESB and Chiswick Bitter.

The Good Pub Guide, dubbed the 'pub-goers bible', features more than 4,700 of the UK's finest pubs and is a best-seller in the travel guides sector. More than 2,000 eagle-eyed correspondents give their regular feedback on the vibrant pub scene from country inns to urban venues. The final inspections are made by editors Alisdair Aird and Fiona Stapley, who make the ultimate decision about which pubs make the cut.

The guide also features a list of national awards including Pub of the Year, Pub Group of the Year, and Beer Pub of the Year, with Fuller's fighting off competition from breweries across the UK to pick up the ultimate accolade in their category.

Referencing Fuller's, the 2014 guide states: "It's still very much a family-run company, and has combined traditional virtues (it has a very good tenanted pub estate) with a go-ahead attitude to modern conditions. Their beers are top-notch…one in twelve good pubs now stocks at least one of these (and many also stock good farm cider from Cornish Orchards, recently bought by Fuller's.)"

Commenting on the achievement, Fuller's Chief Executive Simon Emeny said: "We are hugely proud to receive this fantastic award. The accolade is particularly important to us because it reflects the opinion of our valued customers who consistently support us. We will all be celebrating with a pint of Pride this evening!"

Fuller's is an independent traditional family brewer founded in 1845 and remains on its original site at the Griffin Brewery in Chiswick, London. Fuller's Inns runs more than 385 quality pubs, bars and hotels across the south of England, while the Fuller's Beer Company brews London Pride, the UK's leading premium cask ale, as well as a portfolio of award-winning ales. It recently launched its first craft lager with Frontier and also acquired the premium cider producer Cornish Orchards.

About The Good Pub Guide

The Good Pub Guide 2014 is published by Ebury Press on 29 August 2013 at £15.99. Organised county by county, each section highlights Main Entries that have been fully inspected and carefully selected to warrant their place. These are followed by a number of shorter Worth a Visit descriptions where outstanding pubs are clearly starred. This year The Good Pub Guide welcomes 163 new Main Entries - about one in five - which cater to all pub tastes but all of which share the stamp of real quality.
