(Alliance News) - Eni on Wednesday - in a press release - announces that it learns with satisfaction the decision of the Council of State that after 4 years has rejected the argument of the Italian Antitrust Authority (AGCM) according to which Eni had engaged in an unfair commercial practice to the detriment of consumers for the Eni Diesel+ fuel advertising campaign.

The Council of State has in fact fully upheld Eni's appeal in the proceedings in which the company was ordered to pay a penalty of EUR5 million.

The AGCM in 2020 had challenged the valuation in terms of environmental benefit of the green component consisting of the percentage of HVO (hydrogenated biofuel) blended into diesel.

"The Council of State's ruling closes an affair that caused Eni significant economic as well as reputational damage, corroborating unfair accusations of 'greenwashing' that now prove to be totally unfounded," reads the released note.

The Council of State has definitively ascertained that no unfair commercial practice was carried out by Eni to the detriment of consumers and that the charges at the time made by the AGCM are to be considered unfounded, disavowing the principle that terms such as green and the like can never be associated with products that are considered, by their nature, not 'zero impact' on the environment.

Eni on Wednesday trades in the red by 0.8 percent at EUR15.40 per share
