Due to long lines of mostly non-members, Costco is reportedly requiring membership cards for those buying food from the wholesaler's outdoor food courts.

The requirement, going into effect as of April 8, won't impact indoor food courts as they are only accessible to club members, according to an Axios report.

Costco has two membership program levels. The basic costs $60 and an executive membership, at $120, offers 2% back on purchases.

In July 2023 the Costco self-checkout experience was revamped as the wholesaler began asking for photo identification as well as the membership card in a move to crack down on membership card sharing, according to a MarketWatch report.
