NIIT Technologies successfully launches CCTNS in Jharkhand

Empowering Jharkhand Police force with real-time crime and criminal information

Ranchi, India, 31 January, 2013, Tuesday: NIIT Technologies Ltd. (NSE: NIITTECH), a leading global IT solutions organization today announced the successful launch of the ambitious Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) in Jharkhand. The programme will empower Jharkhand Police force with real-time crime and criminal information across the state with a view to enhance security and improve service to citizens.

Phase1 implementation has begun in two pilot districts, Ranchi and Khunti, at 44 police stations and 57 higher offices. The project will link 478 police stations, connect 628 locations, and train 42000 police personnel across the districts of Ranchi and Khunti, to help getting them familiarized with the digitization know-how. With CCTNS in place, there will be a huge scope of improvement in the functioning of police, and to keep track of progress of 22 Lakh records and reduce manual and redundant records. People can lodge an FIR online or check the status of an investigation by the click of a mouse, and can request the police for various kinds of verification online

Inaugurating the CCTNS programme in Jharkhand, State DGP, Jharkhand, Mr. G S Rath said, "CCTNS is a small step for the Jharkhand Police but a huge leap for the state and the public. This project will help the department bridge the gap between the public and the police. The locations that are connected come under the naxalite area, and we look forward to curb the crime rates with the help of CCTNS."

Commenting on the development, Mr. S N Pradhan, Inspector General, Jharkhand Police said, "the complaint that people have against police officers that the latter help influential people, will now end. As every case goes online, every step will be crystal clear as the officer-in-charge will have to regularly update minute details of the investigation. So it will be possible to check the progress of the case every day."

"All the police stations of the state will go online in a year's time, with the help of NIIT Technologies, and BSNL. Unlike earlier, when we used to monitor crime rates at the end of the month, we can now monitor it at any given point in time." said, Mr. R K Mallick, Inspector General.

Currently, NIIT Technologies is working with 4 states - Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh, under the CCTNS programme. This project is part of the Union Government's announcement to implement the programme across12 states. The programme has been quite successful and has been running as per the schedule.
