The Attijariwafa bank group and the Moroccan Agency for Energy Efficiency are collaborating to accelerate the green financing momentum in the field of energy efficiency in Morocco

Casablanca, March 11, 2022 - The Attijariwafa bank group and the Moroccan Agency for Energy

Efficiency (AMEE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which concerns the structuring of programs for energy efficiency and the green economy. The Chairman and

Managing Director of Attijariwafa bank group, Mr. Mohamed EL KETTANI, and the Managing

Director of AMEE, Mr. Saïd MOULINE, concluded this agreement during a ceremony held at the Attijariwafa bank group's headquarters in Casablanca on Friday, March, 2022.

This collaboration is taking place in a context represented by Morocco's desire to accelerate its energy transition and by the increasing effects of climate change. To respond to these challenges, the two institutions plan to accelerate the green financing dynamics in the field of energy efficiency, particularly as part of Attijariwafa bank group's accreditation to the United Nations Green Climate Fund (GCF).

As a reminder, the Attijariwafa bank group is a major player in the financing of energy transition and sustainable development, with more than 1,900 MW of renewable energy projects financed in all the countries where the Group is present in Africa. Attijariwafa bank is the first African commercial bank in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, and the seventh at the global level, to have been accredited by the United Nations Green Climate Fund, as a financing intermediary for the implementation of green financing in Africa.

As another reminder, the Moroccan Agency for Efficiency (AMEE) is the public institution involved in the entire value chain in the energy efficiency sector. Its mission is to contribute to the implementation of the government's green economy policy (energy efficiency, sustainable transport, and decarbonisation of industry), aiming to reduce energy dependency and preserve the environment through the promotion of energy efficiency. A source for proposals to the authorities in terms of laws and standards relating to the sector and an initiator and pilot of integrated sectoral programs, AMEE is now classified as one of the Kingdom's strategic public establishments.

Through this collaboration, the Attijariwafa bank group and AMEE plan to boost green financing to meet the national objectives of reducing greenhouse gas emissions regarding energy efficiency.
