Alstom has announced plans to operate a new passenger rail service across England and Wales. In partnership with SLC Rail, this service will be operated under the name of Wrexham, Shropshire and Midlands Railway (WSMR).

Already the UK's leading supplier of trains and rail services, and the country's leading supplier of signalling and infrastructure, the French equipment manufacturer will be operating its own rail transport service in the UK for the first time.

The aim is to create a direct connection of several trains a day between North Wales, Shropshire, the Midlands and London. WSMR is scheduled to go into service in 2025, and is expected to create around 50 new jobs.
