Swiss company Astrocast announced on Monday that it is to deepen its partnership with European aerospace giant Airbus in the field of nanosatellites.

Since 2017, the Geneva-based company has been collaborating with Airbus on a nanosatellite network project dedicated to the Internet of Things (IoT), aiming to develop an affordable, energy-efficient satellite modem for IoT applications.

This constellation is to consist of satellites in Low Earth Orbit (LEO).

"With the extension of its partnership, Airbus confirms its commitment to Astrocast's technology roadmap and its leadership in SatIoT space connectivity," explains Airbus.

The group explains that their collaboration will in particular help lay the foundations for the NTN 5G standard, which is to integrate LEO satellites, ground infrastructure and IoT terminals.

At Astrocast, we believe that the extension of the agreement illustrates the 'strong confidence' shown by Airbus in its potential.
