Accenture announced on Wednesday that it had made a 'strategic investment' in Sanctuary AI, a Canadian start-up specializing in the design of humanoid robots equipped with artificial intelligence (AI).

The advanced AI platform developed by Sanctuary AI trains robots to react to their environment and perform a wide variety of tasks quickly, safely and efficiently.

Recently used in a ready-to-wear store, its 'Phoenix' robot - hailed by Time magazine as one of the 'greatest inventions' of 2023 - successfully completed around 100 tasks ranging from packing goods to labeling and folding items, as well as cleaning the store.

The Phoenix system is powered by the company's in-house-developed AI, dubbed 'Carbon', which mimics the workings of the human brain (memory, sight, sound and touch), transforming natural language into real-world actions.
