Minister Bodha highlighted the historical and exceptional relations that Mauritius and France share, one that is anchored in mutual understanding, brotherhood and respect. France, he emphasised, has been a key partner to Mauritius in its socioeconomic growth, while indicating that the highest influx of tourists comes from France, including Reunion Island.
Mauritius, the Minister underlined, is entering its new cycle of development by consolidating the progress made over the course of its fifty years of independence to spur new opportunities of growth. He also dwelt on the major infrastructural developmental projects undertaken by the Government over the few years, namely the modernisation of the transport sector.
The Metro Express, Mr Bodha said, is a major initiative to provide the best quality and modern transport system to the population. The successful implementation of this project is poised to become an exemplary model for other countries in the region, he added. He also recalled that the Prime Minister has announced that this revolutionised transport system will be made accessible across Mauritius for better connectivity.
The Minister highlighted the possible areas of collaboration and cooperation with France in new sectors of development including the financial, technology, renewable, the cinema industry as well as reboosting the tourism industry. Mauritius, he pointed out, acts as a platform of investment to the African continent for example through the China-Africa Fund and Japan-Africa Fund.
Futhermore, Mr Bodha highlighted that Mauritius has an excellent reputation for having a jurisdiction of substance and transparency and its adherence to good governance.
As for Ambassador Cohet, he underlined that the bilateral relations that Mauritius and France share, have been strengthened and enhanced over the past years. He expressed the willingness of the French Government to support Mauritius in its projects of modernising the country on various fronts. According to him, key challenges upon which the countries can further collaborate include climate change, the protection of the biodiversity and waste management.
The President of the MEDEF, Mr Martin, on his part, highlighted that Mauritius is a privileged partner of France and expressed determination that the two countries will enhance their existing partnership by collaborating in areas of mutual interest. The strengthening of ties with countries in the Indian Ocean is at the core of the agenda of the French Government, he pointed out.
He lauded the Mauritian Government's efforts in maintaining soundness and stability of the financial system, while adding that France is motivated by the thriving of business activities and successful implementation of projects.
