FTSE 100 Poised to Rise After Mixed Asia Trading

0637 GMT - The FTSE 100 looks set to rise 36 points to 7738, according to IG futures data, though Asia trades mixed and U.S. stocks lost ground. Markets in Australia and Hong Kong gain, though mainland Chinese stocks drop. The Dow fell 0.9% Thursday. "While markets continue to obsess about whether the rate-hiking cycle is over and stock markets slip back from their recent highs, the bond market appears to have made up its mind that the Fed and ECB are both done on the rates front," CMC Markets analyst Michael Hewson writes. "Of course, with unemployment still low in Europe and the U.S., the economic data could still play a part in that narrative, starting today with the April jobs report." (philip.waller@wsj.com)
