Zaptec has been granted its patent application for phase balancing and has protected its charging technology. The patent makes the Norwegian technology for smart power utilization unique.

"This is what we have been waiting for. This approval makes Zaptec even more stable with smart power technology that is impossible to copy," says Peter Bardenfleth-Hansen, CEO of the Norwegian electric vehicle charging company, Zaptec.

The technology now under patent protection enables more cost-effective infrastructure installation at large facilities that charge multiple electric vehicles simultaneously, with better use of power and faster charging speeds.

"It's called dynamic phase balancing, which means that we utilize all three conductors that carry power. If one conductor is occupied or overloaded, the charging system switches to another conductor, utilizing the power more efficiently there. We can compare it to a bar with three tap towers for simplicity. Imagine one tap is empty, and you want to switch to some of the others. With our technology, there is no problem with refueling energy," says Bardenfleth-Hansen.

The European Patent Office issued the patent and can now be activated in all European countries. The patent is also approved in China and Japan.

"This is an important competitive advantage for us in Europe. It demonstrates quality with technology and a patent that makes Zaptec a leader in infrastructure development for AC chargers. The best thing in this context is that we, without obstacles, can contribute to accelerating the development of electric vehicle infrastructure, even to areas where there is not much power available," says Bardenfleth-Hansen.

According to the CEO, the technology enables more efficient charging systems and utilizes today's power grid more efficiently. This helps the electric vehicle fleet grow without compromising the power grid.

"Electricity is a perishable commodity since it is produced and used at the same time and not stored. Therefore, getting more power to a larger building, whether it is a housing cooperative, or a company building, will take a long time and cost a lot of money. Our new patented technology can utilize all available power in the building. This makes power usage more efficient. All of this happens without supplying more power to the building," he says.

"Put another way, it guarantees that you can expand the charging park with as many charging stations as you want without it becoming a future energy problem for the building. In addition, it is a big plus for those who live in or use the building, as they do not have to pay large sums to expand the power supply."

"In other words, it guarantees that you can expand the charging area with as many charging stations as you want without it becoming a future energy problem for the building. In addition, it is a big plus for those who live in or use the building, as they do not have to pay large sums to expand the power supply. And lastly, and perhaps most importantly, this technology will help accelerate the rollout of charging infrastructure, which at the end of the day will accelerate global CO2 reductions."
