Detecting and Identifying Unmanned Aerial Drones

24/11/2021

Aerial drone technology continues to develop rapidly, with improved capabilities, at lower prices and increased availability. When used by responsible hobbyists, or in crisis and emergency response situations, drones offer obvious benefits. Small drones can also accidentally or deliberately be used to disrupt, threaten or attack critical national infrastructure, however. Solutions to detect, identify, and eliminate unwanted aerial drones are needed now more than ever.

Over many years QinetiQ has developed significant expertise in this area. We present the following whitepaper:

  • A discussion of how specialised radar technology can be optimised to accurately detect and identify small drones, minimising false positives and clearly differentiating them from other aerial presences
