US activist investor Barington Capital Group is nominating three directors to the board of chemicals firm OMNOVA Solutions. The move comes after Barington last week called on OMNOVA to change strategies, in particular to sell its surfaces businesses, appoint new independent directors, and to separate the roles of CEO and chairman. The nominations include Joseph Gingo, who will be retiring as CEO of plastic compounds and resins maker A Schulman on 31 December, 2014.

The former Goodyear executive took over as CEO of Schulman in 2008 after Barington called for changes at that company.
