Tokyo, Nov 28 (EFE).- Japan's Interior Minister Junji Suzuki said Tuesday he was concerned about the leak of user information on the Line messaging application after a cyber attack on its operator LY Corporation, and called for measures to be taken.

"It is very regrettable that this has happened again and user information has not been protected in this telecommunications service that is an important infrastructure for the life of the Japanese people," Suzuki said Tuesday morning during a press conference after the government cabinet meeting.

LY Corporation said Monday that malware infected a computer owned by a subcontractor employee of its South Korean subsidiary Naver Cloud Corporation, with whom LY shares an internal system to process information of employees and other personnel managed with a common authentication system.

Attacking Naver's network allowed hackers to access LY's, which resulted in the leak of more than 400,000 cases of personal information of the company's employees and clients, including LINE users. It is unknown if the data Leaked information includes banking information or content of conversations in the application.

Suzuki said he would request "comprehensive measures" based on "a detailed report from the company on the causes and other factors" to prevent the incident from happening again.

LY Corporation was formed in October as a result of the merger of Z Holdings and its group companies Yahoo Japan and Line Corporation.

The interior ministry accused Yahoo in August, before the merger, of providing another company with location data obtained from users' smartphones without informing them "sufficiently." EFE
