The main stage of refurbishment of the 500 kV Raduga substation has been completed to supply power to the new production facilities of the Vyksa plant of the United Metallurgical Company (OMK). The large-scale investment program that the company is implementing in Vyksa requires additional capacity. As a result, the connection volume will increase from 373.1 MW to 613.1 MW.

Power for OMK's plant in Vyksa is provided by the Nizhni Novgorod region's main power center: Raduga 500 kV substation by Rosseti FGC UES, with 1250 MVA transformer capacity. An additional 250 MVA autotransformer and 500 kV switching equipment were installed and a 110 kV switchyard line feeder was built at the utility to provide capacity for the new production units.

Currently, relay protection and emergency control devices are being commissioned and new equipment is being integrated into the automated process control system (APCS). The work will be finally completed in the third quarter of the year 2022. All equipment installed as part of the substation expansion is of Russian origin.

OMK is implementing one of the largest investment programs in the industry. Among the key projects in the Nizhni Novgorod region are a comprehensive development program for the manufacture of small and medium-diameter pipes and the construction of seamless pipes for the oil and gas industry.

OMK plant is the backbone enterprise of the single-industry town of Vyksa with a population of about 53,000 people and employs almost a third of its residents. The company is a partner of a large number of infrastructure projects in the field of fuel and energy, construction and transport. Vyksa pipes are used in domestic and international gas transportation projects. In addition, the plant provides wheel products for more than 2/3 of all Russian freight and passenger railcars, and is the only plant in the country that produces wheels for high-speed trains.
