It is the age of web 5.0. Both content and the way it is consumed, as we know it, have been undergoing a drastic change. Consumers are demanding the 'anytime, anywhere' aspect of online programming. The success of streaming TV services like Hulu is a case in point. On the other hand, Cable and satellite television channels have lost 400,000 subscribers in the last quarter!

Since its inception, Digidev (DIDG) has been aiming to be the bridge between consumers and content developers. The company licenses content from owners and converts it into multiple formats so that same content can be consumed through a home theater or a smartphone.

In the video here, Joe Q. Bretz - President & Co-Founder of Digidev - talks about "O-T-T" or Over The Top Home Entertainment and the choice that it offers to consumers. "Over-the-top" devices like DVD players, video game consoles, Smart TVs, mobile devices, etc. piggyback on existing internet services in consumers' homes and offices, pull content over the network, and deliver it to the chosen display unit. It is called "over-the-top" programming because the services ride "on top" of the service users already have without any additional subscriptions.

For such a service, content will always be king; and Digidev knows it. CEO Martin Greenwald has already licensed thousands of hours of content to add to the library.

"I envision a humungous amount of programming coming (into Digidev's library) in the next six to twelve months. That's the annuity that we bring to our shareholders; the value of that library as that marketplace grows will intrinsically increase in value," says Greenwald.

As Joe Bretz notes in the video, the technology to enable seamless consumption across devices would be the key. Digidev should score there with its proprietary technology. The company believes that more than 80% of the people globally will access content through the internet in the next five years. That's the subscriber base DIGIDEV is looking at.

Content developers smell the opportunity. Niche content, developed specifically for consumption through the internet, has seen an exponential rise in recent years. YouTube has been thriving on such content for years now.

Cable and satellite television channels are beginning to suffer as subscribers migrate to online content consumption. Digidev has been one of the early movers who are well positioned to benefit significantly from changing consumer behavior. It has the technology backbone and the rapidly growing content library to do it.
