Over 2 297 solar lamps donated by Choppies Distribution have been handed over to the Molepolole Administrative Authority (MAA) to benefit the underprivileged children.

Handing over the lamps, Choppies senior marketing officer, Ms Katlego Gaborone said they had realised that most children in remote areas did not perform well academically due to limited lighting at home, which reduced chances of learning after school.

If charged properly, Ms Gaborone said the solar light could hold power for 20 hours and could also be used to recharge cellular phones.

She said MAA was among the six district councils that would benefit from the over P900 000 worth solar lamps, adding that Letlhakeng Sub-district had already received 1 688 solar lamps.

MAA Sub-council chairperson, Mr Allen Jacob, expressed gratitude over Choppies' gesture saying the lamps would make a difference in the lives of beneficiaries.

He challenged caretakers to be aware of the fact that donations were solely aimed at benefitting orphans to help improve their performances and not to be used as a source of light for the entire household.

"Let us ensure that the donation serves the purpose it is intended to and the purpose the donor intended to achieve," said MAA Sub-council chairperson.

In his welcome remarks, MAA senior council secretary Mr Gofaone Kgabanyane, assured the donors that the donation would be channelled to individual beneficiaries to serve its intended purpose.
