Bridgestone Corporation today announced that it has been selected for inclusion in the FTSE4Good Index Series, a globally recognized environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investment index series, for the sixth consecutive year and for the eleventh time in total.

In addition, the Company was selected for a sixth straight time for inclusion in the FTSE Blossom Japan Index, which is comprised of Japanese companies.

The FTSE4Good Index Series and FTSE Blossom Japan Index are stock indexes created by FTSE Russell, which assesses company initiatives from the perspectives of environmental, social, and governance. Only companies that meet FTSE Russell's defined standards are selected for inclusion in these indexes.

Bridgestone improved its scores in all indicators compared to the previous year and received the highest scores on a five-point scale in the environmental and social areas. The following initiatives have contributed to this improvement:

Environmental

Based on the Company's Water Stewardship Policy established in 2020 for equitable and sustainable water use, Bridgestone has been developing and implementing specific water stewardship plans according to each local water issues, focusing on its manufacturing facilities located in water stress areas1. The Company actively engages with stakeholders in water stress areas, including the formation of partnerships with neighboring companies to further reduce water withdrawal in the community.

Social

Bridgestone's sustainable procurement initiatives aim to create long-term environmental, social, and economic benefits for stakeholders across its supply chain. These initiatives are based on the Company's Global Sustainable Procurement Policy. Bridgestone has been strengthening engagement with suppliers to encourage them to comply with the Policy and enhance their understanding. The Company monitors results of ESG assessment of suppliers, conducts on-site audits through third-party organizations, and provides continuous support for their improvement.

Governance

Bridgestone has revised its 'Global Anti-Bribery Policy' and continuously conducted education to its employees worldwide. The Company is committed to ensuring ethical decision-making and compliance. One example of these efforts is the introduction of a new screening tool to identify bribery and trade-compliance risks, which bolsters its compliance due diligence program for contractors and agents.
