In the cumulative period between January and August, there were more than 189 million passengers, 18.7% more than in 2022 and 1.2% more than in 2019

In August, 235,938 aircraft movements were recorded and 86,809 tonnes of cargo were transported at airports throughout the network Airports in the Aena network in Spain closed the month of August 2023 with a historical passenger record: 29,890,357, 9.5% more than in the same month of 2022 and 1.4% more than in 2019, before the pandemic, the previous record year.

In August 2023, Aena managed 235,938 aircraft movements, 5.7% more than in 2022; and 86,809 tonnes of cargo were transported, 10.6% more than last year.

Of the total number of travellers in August, 29,825,273 were commercial passengers: 20,592,197 travelled on international flights, 11.7% more than in August 2022, while 9,233,076 travelled on domestic flights, 4.8% more than last year.

Between January and August 2023, 189,099,532 travellers passed through Aena airports (18.7% and 1.2% more than in 2022 and 2019, respectively), 1,608,918 aircraft movements were recorded (+8.9% compared to 2022) and 681,132 tonnes of cargo were transported, 4.5% more than in the same period of 2022.

Passengers
Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport recorded the highest number of passengers in the eighth month of the year with 5,559,790, representing growth of 11.5% compared to August of last year.

It is followed by Barcelona-El Prat Josep Tarradellas Airport, with 4,974,579 (+11.4% compared to 2022); Palma de Mallorca Airport, with 4,371,606 (+5%); Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport, with 2,419,072 (+17.8%); Alicante-Elche Airport, with 1,702,139 (+12.6%); Ibiza Airport, with 1,435,874 (+5.5%); Gran Canaria Airport, with 1,129,345 (+3.6%); and Valencia Airport, with 1,072,418 passengers (+18.7%).

Operations
In terms of operations, the airport with the highest number of movements in August was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, with a total of 33,811 (+7.1% compared to 2022), followed by Barcelona-El Prat Josep Tarradellas Airport, with 29,854 flights (+7.5%); Palma de Mallorca Airport, with 29,233 (+1.4%); Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport, with 16,945 (+11.8%); Ibiza Airport, with 12,513 (-2.4%); Gran Canaria Airport, with 10,556 (+6.5%); and Alicante-Elche Airport, with 10,468 landings and takeoffs (+6.9%).

Cargo
Regarding the transport of cargo, the airport with the highest volume of cargo was Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, with 48,735 tonnes, up 12% compared to the same month of 2022. It is followed by Zaragoza Airport, which recorded 13,342 tonnes (+32.5%); Barcelona-El Prat Josep Tarradellas Airport, with 12,857 tonnes (-3.5% compared to 2022); and Vitoria Airport, with 5,346 tonnes (-1.4%).
