Shares of energy companies ticked up as energy prices recouped some of their recent losses.

U.S. benchmark oil prices ended 0.7% higher to close just below the psychologically significant $60-per-barrel level.

Natural-gas futures bounced from a 10-week low.

Royal Dutch Shell said gains it made from higher oil prices in the first quarter would be partly offset by disruption related to the winter storm in Texas.
