The FTSE 100 ended Thursday up 0.55% as easing fears around the Omicron coronavirus variant helped push markets into better form. "It might not be like some of the Santa rallies of years past, but at least markets have managed to claw their way higher this week, and as the final full day of London trading before Christmas marches to its close, stocks look to be in stronger form," IG Group PLC chief market analyst Chris Beauchamp says. Given the light news, it is hard to pin the move on anything firm, but between positive news on Omicron and a rebound in durable-goods orders the economic recovery seems to be on track, Beauchamp says.
