May 17--A full list of upcoming shows follows Brian McCollum's highlights below:

Thursday

Sum 41

Canada's biggest contribution to the pop-punk revival heads to Pontiac in a commemorative state of mind, marking the 15th anniversary of "Does This Look Infected?" -- the sophomore album that helped tighten Sum 41's songwriting while launching the hits "Still Waiting" and "The Hell Song." 6:30 p.m., the Crofoot Ballroom, 1 S. Saginaw, Pontiac. 248-858-9333. $27 and up.

Todd Rundgren's Utopia

In the mid-'70s, pop craftsman Rundgren broadened his musical palette with this synth-laced, guitar-noodling prog-rock project, which carried on for a decade before disbanding. It's back this year for its first full-scale tour since that time. Rundgren is joined by originals Kasim Sulton and Willie Wilcox with Israeli keyboardist Gil Assays, filling in for an ailing Ralph Shuckett. 6 p.m., the Fillmore Detroit, 2115 Woodward, Detroit. 313-961-5450. $32.50-$99.50.

Friday

Rise Against

This cozy Saint Andrew's gig stems from Rise Against's partnership with the second-division German soccer club FC St. Pauli, a link formed last year in a shared "stand against racism, sexism, fascism and homophobia," as the team says. St. Pauli is in town for a Saturday match against Detroit City FC; the tie-in concert comes as the Chicago band preps for a busy summer of European touring and festival dates. 8:30 p.m., Saint Andrew's Hall, 431 E. Congress, Detroit. 313-961-6358. $25.

Sunday

Daryl Hall & John Oates and Train

It'll be a night of hooks galore, in a co-headlining bill that pairs the classic soul-pop of Hall & Oates with the '90s-spawned melodic rock of Train. The tour comes on the heels of "Philly Forget Me Not," a collaborative single featuring Hall, Oates and Train singer Patrick Monahan, celebrating their Pennsylvania origins. Kandace Springs will open. 7 p.m., Little Caesars Arena, 2645 Woodward, Detroit. 313-471-6611. $49.50-$129.50.

Tesseract

The English outfit brings its intricate, shape-shifting progressive metal as it tours the U.S. in support of its new fourth album, "Sonder." With Astronoid and Plini. 6 p.m., Majestic Theatre, 4140 Woodward, Detroit. 313-833-9700. $22.50-$27.50.

Tuesday

Apocalyptica

It's a blast of heavy metal cello thunder as the Finnish string ensemble celebrates its 1996 debut album, "Plays Metallica by Four Cellos." The show's first half features the album sequence in its entirety, followed by a second set of other Metallica fare. 7 p.m., Royal Oak Music Theatre, 318 W. Fourth, Royal Oak. 248-399-2980. $35-$40.

Vance Joy

More than three years after the skittering ukulele of "Riptide" gave this Australian singer-songwriter a global smash, Joy has returned with another batch of heart-on-his-sleeve pop-folk, "Nation of Two," a sophomore album that digs into the nuts-and-bolts of life in a relationship. With Alice Merton. 7:30 p.m., Fox Theatre, 2211 Woodward, Detroit. 313-471-6611. $29.50-$49.50.

Tuesday, Wednesday and May 25

Greta Van Fleet

Things have only continued to blossom for GVF since the Michigan band played Detroit the week after Christmas, with ever-growing international attention, relentless touring and the recording of a debut album that's expected this summer. The hard-rock quartet sold out these three Fillmore shows in minutes, part of a banner 2018 that has already included performances at Coachella and Elton John's Oscars party. Roc Nation rock band Dorothy will open. 7 p.m., the Fillmore Detroit, 2115 Woodward, Detroit. 313-961-5450. $20-$49.50.
