Vina San Pedro Tarapaca : VSPT Wine Group joins the first waste management program in Chile

The pioneering program 'Mi Barrio Recicla' (My Neighborhood Recycles) aims to collect waste from over 2,100 buildings across the Providencia district of Santiago, Chile. Under the program, the pilot scheme began for the Recycling and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Law, which will come into force by 2022.

From the world of wine, VSPT Wine Group is leading this initiative which came into effect on September 2nd, which will allow neighbors to collect and separate waste such as glass, plastic bottles, aluminum cans, paper, cardboard and tetrapack into containers for its subsequent removal. It is an unprecedented initiative in Chile.

With a signed collaboration agreement between the Ministry of Environment, the Municipality of Providencia and twenty companies comprising part of the Association of Food and Drink in Chile (AB Chile), the program 'Mi Barrio Recicla' officially began.

The pilot scheme will be financed by the association through a group of 20 companies from diverse sectors, with VSPT Wine Group as the only winery. In this way, the first Collective Management System for Bottles and Packaging is to be created.
