PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) _ United Natural Foods Inc. (UNFI) on Monday reported fiscal fourth-quarter profit of $52.4 million.

On a per-share basis, the Providence, Rhode Island-based company said it had net income of 89 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to $1.06 per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 71 cents per share.

The organic and specialty foods distributor posted revenue of $6.75 billion in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $6.6 billion.

For the year, the company reported that its loss narrowed to $274.1 million, or $5.10 per share. Revenue was reported as $26.51 billion.

United Natural expects full-year earnings in the range of $3.05 to $3.55 per share, with revenue in the range of $27 billion to $27.8 billion.

United Natural shares have more than doubled since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Monday, shares hit $19.18, a rise of 66% in the last 12 months.
