From June 22, drivers can use the new Niepołomice road junction along the A4 motorway, at the intersection with the state road DW 964 - an investment strategically important for Małopolska. Construction works were performed two weeks before the declared date (!) by the consortium of companies: Trakcja PRKiI (leader) and Lithuanian Akcine Bendrove 'KAUNO TILTAI' (partner).

The inhabitants of Niepołomice and entrepreneurs of the Niepołomice investment zone have been waiting for this 'section' of the highway for 10 years. All the more it is nice that the Trakcja PRKiI investment was completed 2 weeks before the declared date, which in the tender was shortened from 18 to 15 months of implementation anyway (without winter periods).

- In order for this type of investment to be completed on time, good quality partnership must be excellent, of all parties involved. I wish all contractors such well-prepared and so partner-led investments, and users safe and quiet driving - summed up Marcin Lewandowski, president of the board general director of Trakcja PRKiI S.A.

'Construction of the road junction along the A4 Kraków-Tarnów motorway from km 435+216.38 to km 436+069.27 on the section Kraków Wieliczka junction - Targowisko junction, as well as the extension of the provincial road DW 964 along with the construction and reconstruction of technical infrastructure, and change of the flow of streams Podłężanka and Zakrzowianka' began at the end of September 2018 and cost less than PLN 43 million gross.

Due to the wide scope of construction works and numerous logistical challenges related to carrying out works without excluding the roads from traffic, the construction required a qualified contractor, having a professional staff of specialists and adequate resources of highly specialized equipment. Trakcja PRKiI once again showed that efficient management of large and - as it turned out: difficult - investments is in the standard of its services.

The scope of work carried out at the Niepołomice junction:

· construction on the A4 motorway of acceleration lanes of the length of 340 m and 370 m, as well as deceleration lanes of the length of 270 m and 280 m,

· construction of a full road junction, i.e. connecting points for entry and exit routes,

· reconstruction of the DW964 road section - widening to 3 lanes,

· construction of 2 roundabouts at the intersection of DW964 road with motorway junctions: 3-inlet with a diameter of Ø41m and 4-inlet with a diameter of Ø45m,

· construction of engineering facilities from MultiPlate MP200 corrugated steel (culvert on the south side with dimensions: length 52 m, height 6.7 m, width 7.68 m and a culvert on the north side, dimensions: 48 m, height 6.7 m, width 7.68 m),

· construction of channel beds of Podłężanka and Zakrzowianka streams, with strengthening the slopes with gabion baskets,

· construction of service roads of the width of 3.5 m and 5.0 m,

· construction of acoustic screens, protective barriers and highway fencing,

· construction of road lighting along the A4 motorway, MV cable network, MV overhead network, LV overhead network, tele-technical sewage system (technological channel), storm water drainage system, rainwater drainage ducts,

· construction of sidewalks, road lighting, MV overhead network, tele-technical cable sewage system, storm water drainage system, gas network, sanitary sewage system, tele-technical network, water supply - within the state road DW964.

Earthworks (excavations for Muliplate culverts) in the riverbed of the Zakrzowianka River proved to be a challenge for the team, which - with high levels of groundwater under pressure - did not allow effective drainage of the work area. In this case, as rarely, experience and specialist knowledge of the contractor, which solved the problem paid off, by making 6 deep wells (culvert), of which water was pumped 24 hours a day for 3 months to lower and maintain the appropriate level of the water surface.

Investment in numbers:

· excavations: 24 000 m3

· embankments: 100 000 m3

· soil reinforcement: 3183 displacement columns

· 28 000 m2 of aggregate reinforced with GFRP composite fibreglass rods for high strength and corrosion resistance

· bituminous masses: 16 800 tonnes

· single-sided steel road barriers with a length of 5.4 km

· acoustic screens of the height of 4 m and 5 m and the length of 0.5 km

· highway fencing 2.0 m, with thickening and homing fences for amphibians, 1.7 km long

· over 3 km of watertight sealed ditch.

Drivers have been using the new A4 road interchange from yesterday - June 22, when it was officially opened. Many distinguished guests took part in the ceremony of commissioning the investment to users, including Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk, MPs Urszula Rusecka, Rafał Bochenek, Stanisław Bukowiec and Małopolska Province Piotr Ćwik

The construction of the new Niepołomice highway junction was carried out at the request of the Treasury, represented by the General Director of National Roads and Motorways in Kraków, the Niepołomice commune and the Provincial Road Management Board in Kraków. Trakcja PRKiI is an experienced construction partner in large infrastructure investments, both for state institutions and local authorities.
