Top Glove Corp. Bhd. expects confirmed Covid-19 cases among its workers to be on a downward trend as health screening of staff concludes, said the group's executive director, Lim Cheong Guan.

As of Nov. 24, there were 4,036 positive cases at a cluster linked to Top Glove's workers, Mr. Lim said at a press conference Wednesday.

He said the high number of positive cases over the last few days was due to mass testing in areas surrounding Top Glove's worker hostel.

Approximately 500 of Top Glove's workers have since been discharged from hospital after being hospitalized for an average six days, as they have been found to be non-contagious, Mr. Lim said.

Over the past two months, he said Top Glove has spent 20 million ringgit ($4.9 million) in purchasing 100 units of new accommodations for workers, and will continue to invest for further improvement.

The Top Glove executive chairman said he hopes the closure of the company's factories could be over in the next two to four weeks.
