More 5G Mobile Tariffs:O₂ Goes on The Offensive With 5G

O₂ goes on the offensive with 5G.

The O₂ brand is expanding the range of its 5G-capable mobile tariffs. From July 6, all new and existing customers will be able to use the latest mobile communications standard with any of the O₂ Free Unlimited tariffs or a volume tariff from the O₂ Free M onwards. This means that 5G tariffs are available from O₂ from €29.99 per month. When taking out a new contract for one of these tariffs, 5G will automatically be included for O₂ customers, existing customers can book the free '5G access' package¹. They will thus benefit even more comprehensively from the high-performance O₂ network, which was rated 'very good' in an independent test by the trade magazine connect.² Currently, O₂ customers already have access to 5G with the O₂ Free Unlimited Max and O₂ Free Unlimited Smart tariffs as well as the O₂ Free L Boost and O₂ Free L. From July 6, 5G will also be a fixed component of the O₂ Free Unlimited Basic and the O₂ Free M Boost and O₂ Free M volume tariffs, which are very popular with customers.³ This will further improve the already convincing price-performance ratio of the respective tariffs, because with 5G the maximum data speed of the O₂ Free M Boost and O₂ Free M tariffs increases to 300 Mbit/s.⁴ Customers who already have an O₂ contract for their internet or landline connection will benefit from a 50 per cent discount thanks to the Combi Advantage and pay only EUR 14.99 per month for the O₂ Free M, for example.⁵ For young people under 29 and people over 60, the monthly price is reduced by EUR 10.⁶⁷

5G For Existing Customers

Customers who already have an O₂ contract for their internet or landline connection will benefit from a 50 per cent discount thanks to the Combi Advantage.

At O₂, as many existing customers as possible should be able to experience the benefits of 5G. Anyone who took out a 4G-capable O₂ Free M Boost or M tariff before July 6 can simply add the free '5G Access' package via the Mein O₂ App. Customers using the O₂ Multicard only need to book the '5G Access' package once to get 5G for all SIM cards running on the contract. The same applies to customers using the Connect Option. The Connect Option offers up to 10 additional cards in the O₂ Free L Boost and O₂ Free M Boost tariffs. In the data-only tariffs O₂ my Data L, M or S, 5G has been included for new customers since May 5. Existing customers who had booked a data tariff before May 5 can also have the free '5G access' package activated via the Mein O₂ App.

Rising Demand For 5G

The prerequisite for surfing with 5G is, in addition to a corresponding tariff and 5G network coverage, a 5G-capable mobile device. To date, Telefónica Deutschland / O₂ has connected 60 cities in Germany to the 5G network. By the end of the year, the O₂ network will cover 30% of the population and the whole of Germany with 5G by the end of 2025. At the same time, more and more consumers in Germany are using 5G-enabled mobile devices. At O₂, for example, the share of 5G-enabled smartphones sold in the first quarter of 2021 was already over 50 per cent.

If not listed separately, the prices, services and other conditions of the respective standard tariff apply. Eligibility must be proven by presentation of an appropriate ID card. The special conditions for young people are only granted from the age of 14. From the age of 28, the benefit is automatically cancelled for customers who are not pupils, students or trainees at that time, but not before the end of the minimum term. Offer not valid if other special conditions are claimed.
7	Discount is granted to customers over 60 years of age when ordering an O2 Free tariff (except O2 Free S) with a minimum contract term of 24 months. Not valid for other special conditions.
