With more than 35 years of experience, it's no surprise that SunPower built some of the earliest home solar power systems with online monitoring. That pioneering spirit led us to be the first company to launch home consumption at scale, showing not only solar production, but also home energy consumption to thousands of homeowners more than 15 years ago.

Since then, solar energy adoption has accelerated while energy monitoring technology has remained mostly the same. But all of that is about to change.

SunPower is excited to announce the first step in a new generation of solar energy monitoring software. The mySunPower™ app, available for Android and iOS devices, will change how homeowners interact with their SunPower® solar system. Users will notice a redesigned interface, more data and full integration with SunVault™ solar battery storage.

The new monitoring app builds on the existing mySunPower digital experience. Homeowners can now see their lease/sales proposals in mySunPower, upon deciding their preference for financing and agreeing to a system structure that best meets their needs, they can sign their initial agreement with SunPower in the application. Once their system is up and running, they can continue using the app for the long-term monitoring of their system.

The New mySunPower App Has a Completely New Look

In making the mySunPower app, SunPower rethought everything from the login screen to how power and energy are summarized throughout the year.

The new interface is deceptively simple. Upon first logging in, users can view the basic status of their system including energy production, consumption and battery flow, depending on their setup. Homeowners can easily see summaries for the day, month, year or lifetime of the system. Throughout the app, graphs offer initial information at a glance, while more in-depth information will reveal itself with a tap or a swipe.

The New mySunPower App Has More Data

mySunPower was built with the connected home in mind. For SunPower homeowners with production meters, energy data displays live in the app while connected via WiFi.* Turn on the microwave and homeowners can quickly see that their consumption has increased within seconds, right in the palm of their hand.

We're incorporating weather information directly into the app, too. Today, we're showing homeowners their solar and storage performance relative to the current weather conditions. In the future, the system will react to weather conditions and show notifications based on upcoming weather events.

The New mySunPower App Helps Manage SunPower® SunVault™ Battery Storage

The mySunPower user interface seamlessly ties into the SunVault ™ Storage system making mySunPower the perfect companion when homeowners want to use their stored power. Users can set their battery to three modes:

  • Self-Supply: In Self-Supply mode, SunVault provides power to the house whenever the solar production does not cover all usage. This is the most environmentally friendly option.
  • Cost Savings: In Cost Savings mode, SunVault considers the utility rate to provide power to the home during the time of day when energy from the grid is more expensive (peak times) and lets the home get power from the utility during less expensive time periods.
  • Reserve: In Reserve mode, SunVault will charge up to 100% of its capacity and reserve that charge for a specified time period in preparation for an upcoming power outage. During the power outage, SunVault can automatically provide power to the home.

When launching the app during a power loss, homeowners will be notified that they're experiencing an outage event and can track how their SunVault solar battery system powers their home.

SunPower is transforming how hundreds of thousands of current SunPower solar homes, and millions more future homeowners, will engage with their home electricity use. We're setting out to make the world's best solar, storage and home energy monitoring application and we're just getting started. Homeowners can look forward to more exciting features along the way.

SunPower Equinox® system customers can look for the new app in their favorite app store. The balance of SunPower's 285,000 monitoring customers will be invited to use the app throughout Spring 2021.

We're interested in what you think of the new experience. Send a note with your feedback to mysunpower@sunpower.com.

* Live data is available to PVS5 and PVS6 sites with production meters installed.
