To celebrate the Zero emissions day today, the Climate Leadership Coalition (CLC) in Finland launched the world's first Carbon Handprint Recognition. One of the two recognitions was given to Spinnova's textile fibre innovation that, compared to cotton, saves as much as 65% of CO2 emissions.

Climate Leadership Coalition has today given out "The most climate positive product" recognition for the first time, as part of the Zero emissions day started in 2017. The innovation recognition for great potential in carbon footprint was given to the textile fibre that Spinnova has developed to e.g. replace cotton use in textile products. The greenhouse gas emissions of cotton production globally is estimated to be over 50 million tonnes CO2e. According to pre-commercial scale calculations, the carbon footprint of Spinnova's fibre is 65% smaller than cotton's*.

- Continuous improvement of our carbon handprint is a big deal to us; one that's been considered from the very start. A climate friendly product must absolutely also be produced with minimal impact, comments Spinnova's Chief Technology Officer and co-founder Juha Salmela.

The other recognition was given to the most climate positive carbon handprint product, Neste's NesteMY Renewable DieselTM, that helps reduce motoring emissions by as much as 90% compared to fossil fuels.

The Zero emission day's mission is to give the planet a day off from fossil emissions and add awareness of the drawbacks of carbon emissions. The theme day's goal is to inspire people to make climate friendly choices in their personal everyday lives. In 2021, the event was held in collaboration with the Finnish city of Lahti, the EU Green Capital 2021.

Climate Leadership Coalition is Europe's largest non-profit climate business network. The market value of CLC's corporate members represents almost 70% of companies listed in the Helsinki stock exchange. CLC members believe that the societal transformation towards a sustainable economy and consumption is not only possible, but also financially profitable.

Growing the positive impact; carbon handprint, is becoming an essential goal for companies, and many CLC members have already defined a metered carbon handprint for their products and services.

* Calculated cradle to gate, i.e. from the raw material farming to the fibre process, not taking into account the consumer's part of emissions over the entire lifecycle.
