January 24, 2017. SONDA, the leading Latin American Information Technology company, reported its results for 2016 showing consolidated revenues of Ch$ 816,159 million, equivalent to US$ 1,219.1 million, and EBITDA of Ch$ 97,101 million, equivalent to US$ 145.0 million.

Fluctuations in Latin American currencies with respect to the Chilean peso for 2016 compared to 2015 negatively affected the conversion of results in local currencies into Chilean pesos, and together with the recession facing Brazil resulted in a decrease of 8.4% in consolidated revenue and 23.4% in EBITDA compared to the previous year.

Net income attributable to the controller was Ch$ 23,396 million, equivalent to US$ 39.4 million, which was 38.4% lower than for 2015.

Revenue from operations outside Chile was Ch$ 454,870 million, equivalent to US$ 679.4 million, which represented 55.7% of total consolidated revenue, while its EBITDA was Ch$ 36,516 million, equivalent to US$ 54.5 million.

The volume of new deals was US$ 1,064.1 million, which was 12.4% lower than in 2015.

Business opportunities totaled US$ 2,840 million, up 81.1% compared to December 2015. The 'pipeline' of business opportunities in Brazil totaled US$ 1,724 million, up 106% compared to December 2015.

Mr Raul Vejar, CEO at SONDA, referred to these results when he said that 'the decrease in results for 2016 was significantly influenced by the complex political and economic situation in Brazil. This resulted in lower business volumes from current contracts and lower demand for new contracts, which were unusual effects that negatively impacted the EBITDA margin in Brazil by 698 bp and the consolidated EBITDA margin for SONDA by 240 bp'. He added that 'this situation differs in the remaining countries where we operate. Excluding foreign currency conversion effects, our revenue and results were similar to those for 2015, in spite of slow-downs in these regional economies'. Finally, he said that 'we expect to see signs of recovery in Brazil during 2017 and that the measures we have implemented in that country will bear fruit. We believe that the increase of over 100% in business opportunities is very positive, and indicates that we should be able to recover the pace of business within the company.'
