Workers at Shougang Hierro Perú ended a three week strike after the government decreed a pay raise. Miners returned to work on October 6, 2016 ending the second labor stoppage in the last 12 months at the mine in Ica region after Peru's labor ministry ordered a 3 sol (USD 0.88) daily wage increase. The ministry settles disputes when companies and unions are unable to reach an agreement. Shougang offered a 1 sol pay hike while the union was demanding 8 soles. Many issues such as working conditions and health benefits were not addressed.
