Yorkshire Air Ambulance

For a number of years now, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) has been the chosen local charity to support for our Severfield employees based at our Dalton site, and we are extremely pleased to have been able to present YAA with a cheque for £4,150 earlier this year.

About the charity

It is often a misconception that the Yorkshire Air Ambulance receive government funding or that they come under the NHS. When in fact, the independent charity relies purely on the generosity of donations from the general public and companies and they only receive help through secondment of paramedics and doctors from the NHS through Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

In order to keep both of the air ambulances running, they need to raise a staggering £12,000 per day.

Bolton Hospice

Our Lostock branch have, for many years, supported Bolton Hospice and have recently presented the charity with a cheque for £4,150.

About the charity

Bolton Hospice provides expert care and support for local people that are facing life-limiting illnesses, and their families. The charity is completely independent and provides these services for free.

The Hospice needs to raise £4m per year in order to provide these specialist services for free and their government funding only covers a small proportion of their costs.

Saint Catherine's

Our Severfield (Design & Build) business unit at Sherburn in North Yorkshire have continued to support Saint Catherine's for another year and have recently made a donation of £8,300 from The Severfield Foundation.

A thank you from St Catherine's Fundraiser, Simon Brass:

"We at Saint Catherine's are privileged to have spent over 30 years providing specialist care to patients with terminal illnesses - and support such as yours goes a long way to providing our services free of charge to patients and their families. Our services cover not only Malton and Rydale, but across more than 1600 square miles including Bridlington, Scarborough, and Whitby. Each year we care for around 3,000 people.

We need over £5.5m a year to continue to deliver all our services. Over 70% of this comes from the wonderful support and generosity of individuals and business across our local communities.

So again, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for giving generously, supporting us and raising money for patient care.

Your continued support is much appreciated."

"On behalf of the patients, staff and volunteers - I would like to thank you, and all of your colleagues at Severfield, for selecting Saint Catherine's as your charity of the year and for raising £8,300 towards our vital services." - Saint Catherine's Hospice

Since January 2016, Severfield (Design & Build) has donated a staggering £28,578.93 to Saint Catherine's.

Our Severfield (NI) business has this year chosen to support Air Ambulance Northern Ireland and Young Lives vs Cancer, each of which have been presented with a cheque for £4,150.

Young Lives vs Cancer

A thank you from Young Lives Versus Cancer Fiona McCann, Regional Corporate Partnerships Manager:

Thank you for your donation of £4150 raised by Severfield (NI) and for your continued support of young lives against cancer with Young Lives vs Cancer.

Your donation of £4,150 equates to 109 nights in a 'Home from Home' (based on the average nightly cost of £38 per room per night). Or it would equate to 41 one-off £100 grants that we give to children/young people when they have been diagnosed.

It is thanks to the dedication of supporters like you, that when cancer strikes young lives we do all we can to limit the damage it causes beyond their health.

Thank you all at Severfield (NI) for being a part of our fight for young lives against cancer.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Air Ambulance Northern Ireland

The Air Ambulance Northern Ireland (AANI) work in partnership with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) and provide helicopter emergency services for the region.

It is not well known that the AANI is a charity that relies entirely on the generosity and support from local people and businesses - and whilst operating 365 days a year, the charity needs to raise £2m each year to keep going.

"Many thanks for the amazing donation from Severfield, an incredible amount of money which will help our service flying and saving lives." - AANI
