New Vonovia power station will heat with Proton Motor fuel cell

● Hydrogen instead of coal for the Ruhrgebiet project ODH@Bochum-Weitmar

Puchheim near Munich, May 27, 2020- Hydrogen is the new coal in Bochum. Emission-free living of the future with renewable raw materials has high priority in the 'Ruhrgebiet' (Ruhr-area) as part of North Rhine Westphalia. The Bavarian hydrogen fuel cell expert 'Proton Motor Fuel Cell GmbH' (www.protonmotor.de) is pleased about the latest order in the stationary area of application. Germany's leading housing company 'Vonovia SE' (www.vonovia.de) is planning a spectacular project and has ordered a 36 kW fuel cell with direct grid connection worth around EUR 110.000 from the Bavarian engineers.

In the middle of the Bochum district of Weitmar is a settlement with 1,400 tenants. As the owner of the neighbourhood on Bärendorfer Straße, Vonovia will start trail measures that will help reduce carbon dioxide emissions over the next three years. The current project in the heart of the Ruhrgebiet with its historical coal mining is called 'ODH@Bochum-Weitmar.de'. When testing energy generation and heating for the future, those responsible want to rely on hydrogen as storage, geothermal energy, photovoltaics, fuel cells and heat pumps. For this reason, a 36 kW fuel cell was ordered from Proton Motor and is intended for the new glass power station of the future. The machinery currently under construction is scheduled to officially open in summer 2020 to supply 81 apartments with CO2-free energy.
