Prosus NV said Wednesday that it has appointed SoftBank Group Corp.'s Ervin Tu to the newly-created role of chief of investments, strategy and mergers and acquisitions for Prosus and parent Naspers Ltd.

The Amsterdam-listed internet conglomerate, which holds a major stake in Chinese tech giant Tencent Holdings Ltd., said Mr. Tu was most recently a managing partner for the SoftBank Vision Fund and previously worked at Goldman Sachs Group Inc. He will start in the new role in August and will be based in San Francisco, Prosus said.

Prosus earlier this week said it had a promising M&A pipeline ahead, and that it saw investment opportunities across the food delivery, payments-and-fintech, classifieds and education-technology sectors.
