PAO Severstal, one of the world's largest vertically integrated steel and mining companies, has supplied the large-diameter pipes (LSAW) for the development of the Olympic stadium in Egypt's new administrative capital.

The products were manufactured for Orascom Construction PLC. That is a leading global engineering and construction contractor primarily focused on infrastructure, industrial and high-end commercial projects in the Middle East, North Africa, the United States, and the Pacific Rim for public and private clients. The Group also develops and invests in infrastructure opportunities.

Supplied products will be used as supports and vertical spacers in the construction of the Olympic stadium. The bespoke order was shipped to Egypt's port of Alexandria, from where it was delivered to the new capital of Egypt.

The LSAW supplied for the project were custom-made to the client's specifications, with lengths spanning up to 18,3 m. Product diameters ranged from 508 to 1422 mm, wall thickness from 10 to 28 mm. All the products were manufactured by the Izhora Pipe Mill (ITZ, part of Severstal's Russian Steel division).

Dmitry Goroshkov, Severstal's Sales and Business Development Director for the Energy Sector, commented:

'For the first time, Severstal has delivered large-diameter pipes to be used in the construction of a stadium abroad. Sports facility construction represents a new market for our LSAW products. We manufactured products of varying lengths and wall thicknesses to fulfill this order in line with our client's requirements.

Our customer-focused model means that we take all elements of the product delivery into close consideration to ensure that the needs of our clients are met, and we continue to improve the efficiency of our supply chains and product delivery. We worked to a tight schedule to fulfill this order, which was delivered directly to the construction site in Egypt.'
